The myth needs to be busted.. ! Its very likely that you must have heard married students getting divorced and having affairs with fellow students at ISB but its just a "Myth".
Not every student gets into an affair or has a divorce. Out of the 150 married students on campus hardly 4- 5 (sometimes even less) of them go through an affair or may be a divorce. Out of these 4-5 students, 2-3 of them are those who already are going through a bad relationship/troubled marriage pre ISB term. There are hardly any "happily married" couples who face such situation, so you need not worry at all !
The reasons of divorce vary , here are a few -
Problem 1) Students not finding time for wife/husband and that makes the wife/husband go mad on him/her everyday leading to everyday fights ending into divorce
Solution : The day your husband /wife gets admission into ISB be ready mentally that you won't get enough time together now. He/She will be busy in assignments and projects and you should be a moral support to him/her. Don't try to bother him/her, try to relax him/her, its very difficult initially but as you find other group of spouses to share your feelings too, you will soon realise it is not tough either.
Problem 2) Your spouse is a student and you have left him alone on campus.
Solution : Not every spouse can join his/her spouse on campus. This is surely a tough time. The student goes through so much of mental and physical pressure such as late night discussion, untimed food, drinks , stress , assignment pressure etc. that sometimes he/she finds a potential partner in the colleagues who helps and spends most of the time with him/her. I don't say all the married students have this tendency but sometimes you feel to low to have someone aside and that is where your marriage gets in trouble.
Probably a call a day and a visit a month should be good enough to make your spouse feel better. You just need to show that despite you are far away you care, and you are always there with him/her. This will not only help him being mentally strong but also will help him to fight with situation where he/she is too low.
For some students those who come to campus, already have a troubled married life pre ISB and their spouses are hardly interested in figuring out how to get the marriage out of trouble and for such students ISB is the place to find a potential partner and get out of that troubled marriage. In these cases the couple itself is responsible and none of the partners are interested in making the marriage work out.
Problem 3) Insecurity , Lack of space and Fear to lose your spouse to someone else.
Solution : Don't be troubled guys , have faith in your marriage, have faith in your love. Human by nature are love seekers , they love the partners who provide space and give them enough attention when they need. At ISB you sometimes have to calm down even if you want to shout out your heart out to your spouse . Reason : ISB creates an enormous pressure on your partner and they have no time to listen to your cribs as there attention is majorly on studies. You need to understand that ISB is not the place to fight and you are here to support him/her . Once the ISB session is over you can shout all your worries out and your partner will love you more for being so supportive through out.
At ISB , divorces are NOT a common phenomenon so don't be scared. Affairs between single students is way COMMON( lol, common phenomenon everywhere :P ). So all the married people on campus, don't be scared , just be patient and supportive and your love will grow to a new level. Your spouse will be thankful to you and love you even more for being so supportive to him/her when he/she had hardly anytime for you.
ISB Rocks and so do the spouses ! Cheers :)
